Bishop of Baroda
Sebastião Mascarenhas, S.F.X., was born on July 29, 1959, in Camurlim, Salcete, in the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman. He completed his studies in philosophy at St. Charles Seminary in Nagpur and in theology at the All India Mission Seminary in Pilar, Goa. He was ordained a priest on May 6, 1984, for the Society of the Missionaries of St. Francis Xavier (Society of Pilar). He held the following positions and pursued further studies: Assistant Parish Priest at Our Lady of Velankani, Vapi, and Principal of Mother of Hope School, Vapi, Gujarat (1984-1988); Assistant Parish Priest of Our Lady of Mercy (Nossa Senhora da Piedade), Silvassa, and Principal of Fr. Agnel High School, Silvassa (1988-1990); Chaplain at Shelti, Nagar Haveli (1990-1992); studies for a Licentiate in Missiology at the Philosophisch-Theologische Hochschule Sankt Augustin in Germany (1992-1994); Chaplain at Dudhni, Nagar Haveli, Principal of St. Xavier's School, and Visiting Professor at the Mission Seminary, Pilar, Goa (1994-1996); studies for a Doctorate in Systematic Theology at the University of Freiburg, Germany (1996-2000); Professor and subsequently Rector of Pilar Theological College, Goa (2000-2009); Provincial Superior in Mumbai (2009-2012); Superior of the Daman Mission (2013-2017); Superior General of the Society of the Missionaries of St. Francis Xavier (Pilar), Goa, India (2017-2022).
