Bishop Sarat Chandra Nayak

Rev. Sarat Chandra Nayak was born on July 1, 1957, in the village of Kerubadi, in the State of Orissa (Archdiocese of Cuttack-Bhubaneshwar). After attending St. John Vianney Minor Seminary in Barasat, Kolkata, he studied Philosophy and Theology at Morning Star College, Barrackpore, Kolkata. He was ordained a priest on April 25, 1990, and incardinated into the Archdiocese of Cuttack-Bhubaneshwar. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: 1990–1995: Parochial Vicar and subsequently Parish Priest in Godapur; 1992–1995: Dean of Bamunigam and Promoter of Vocations for the Archdiocese; 1995–1997: Studies for a Licentiate in Canon Law at St. Peter's Pontifical Institute in Bangalore; 1997–1998: Spiritual Director and Director of the English Course at St. Paul's Minor Seminary, Padampur, as well as Professor of Spirituality; 1998–1999: Defender of the Bond at the Matrimonial Tribunal; 1999: Dean of the Cuttack Deanery and Consultant to the CCBI Commission for Canon Law and Legislative Texts; 1999–2000: Visiting Professor of Canon Law at the Regional Theologate, Sason (Diocese of Sambalpur); 2000–2004: Studies for a Doctorate in Canon Law at the Urbaniana University in Rome. Since 2004, he has served as Judicial Vicar at the Tribunal of Orissa. Since 2005, he has been the Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Cuttack-Bhubaneshwar.
