Archbishop of Białystok
Bishop Józef Guzdek was born on 18 March 1956 in Wadowice, in the metropolitan archdiocese of Kraków. After passing his high school examinations, he was admitted to the Metropolitan Major Seminary of Kraków and on 17 May 1981 he received priestly ordination for the same archdiocese. After pastoral service as parish vicar in three parishes, he was appointed as prefect of discipline in the Major Seminary of Kraków (1994-1998) and subsequently rector of the same seminary. In 2004 he was elected to the titular see of Treba and appointed as auxiliary of Kraków. On 4 December 2010 he was transferred to the seat of the Military Ordinariate for Poland in Warszawa. Within the Polish Episcopal Conference, he Is vice-president of the Council for the Lay Apostolate and delegate for the pastoral care of the police and scouts.
