Bishop Roman Pindel

Roman Pindel was born on November 18, 1958, in Oświęcim, in the Diocese of Bielsko-Żywiec. He entered the Major Seminary of Kraków in 1977 and was ordained a priest on May 22, 1983. Following his ordination, he served as a parochial vicar in Kozy and Racławice. In 1986, he began biblical studies at the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Theological Academy of Kraków (PAT), where he obtained his Licentiate in 1988 and his Doctorate in Theology—specializing in biblical studies—in 1990. From 1986, he served as an assistant and later as an associate professor (1992) at the PAT Faculty of Theology. In 2001, he obtained his habilitation at the PAT, having spent a year in Rome for advanced studies at the Pontifical Biblical Institute. From 2004 to 2011, he served as spiritual director at the Major Seminary of Kraków. His roles to date have included: Rector of the Major Seminary of Kraków (since 2011), Director of the Chair of Biblical Hermeneutics and Judaism at the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Kraków (formerly PAT), diocesan assistant for the Renewal in the Holy Spirit (since 1990), and the Bishop's delegate for pastoral care regarding new religious movements. In September 2013, he became President of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Seminaries.
