Bishop Marcos Antônio Tavoni

Marcos Antônio Tavoni was born on April 21, 1967, in São Carlos (São Paulo). He studied Philosophy at the João Paulo II Diocesan Seminary in São Carlos (1989–1990) and Theology at the Nossa Senhora de Fátima Archdiocesan Seminary in Brasília (1991–1994). He was ordained a priest on November 30, 1996, for the clergy of the Archdiocese of Brasília. After a brief period in Brasília, where he served as parochial vicar of the Imaculada Conceição parish in Taguatinga (1996–1997), he was transferred to the Archdiocese of Palmas. There, he held the following roles: pastor of the Divino Espírito Santo (1999–2004), Santa Teresa d’Ávila (1999–2011), and São João Batista (2003–2011) parishes; rector of the Divino Espírito Santo Interdiocesan Major Seminary and the Mater Dei Center for Higher Studies (2008–2011); and professor of theology and spiritual director of Casa Santa Marta, a center for the rehabilitation of pregnant adolescents (2003–2011). Additionally, he served in various diocesan roles: moderator of the first Archdiocesan Pastoral Synod (2000–2006); coordinator of the commission drafting the Archdiocesan Directory for Christian Initiation (2005–2006); episcopal vicar for the São Pedro Region (2007–2008); and member and secretary of the Presbyteral Council of Palmas for two terms. In 2011, he returned to the Archdiocese of Brasília, where he served as parochial vicar of the Nossa Senhora dos Pobres parish in Paranoá (2011–2013). He currently exercises his ministry as pastor of the Cristo Redentor parish in Taguatinga, in the Archdiocese of Brasília.
