Bishop Ivo Muser

Bishop Ivo Muser, Bishop of Bolzano-Bressanone, was born on February 22, 1962, in Brunico, in the Diocese of Bolzano-Bressanone. After attending public school at Brunico, he was a student of the Canisianum College and studied at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Innsbruck. He was ordained a priest on June 28, 1987, in Bressanone. He then continued his studies in Rome as a guest of the College of Santa Maria dell'Anima, obtaining a doctorate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University. In his ministry he served as assistant parish priest at Dobbiaco (1987-1989); private secretary to Bishop Wilhelm Egger (1989-1991); a student at the Gregorian University in Rome (1991-1995); spiritual director of the Vinzentinum minor seminary (1995-1996); professor at the Theological Academic Institute of Bressanone from 1995; and rector of the major seminary of Bressanone (1996-2010). He has been a canon of the cathedral of Bressanone since 2002 and dean of the cathedral chapter of Bressanone since 2005. He was also responsible for the formation of German- and Ladin-speaking permanent deacons and moderator of the diocesan presbyteral council, of which he remains a member, as well as of the college of consultors. He published his doctoral thesis and has written articles for specialist reviews. On July 27, 2011, he was appointed Bishop of Bolzano-Bressanone. He received episcopal ordination on October 9, 2011, at Bolzano.
