Archbishop of Cagliari
Archbishop Giuseppe Salvatore Baturi, Archbishop of Cagliari, Italy, was appointed Archbishop of Cagliari by the Holy Father from the clergy of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Catania, where he was under-secretary of the Italian Episcopal Conference. The source title identifies him as Archbishop Giuseppe Andrea Salvatore Baturi, Archbishop of Cagliari and Secretary General of the Italian Episcopal Conference. He was born on 21 March 1964 in Catania, in the province and archdiocese of the same name. After scientific high school, he obtained a degree in law from the University of Catania. As a student of the archdiocesan seminary, he attended the San Paolo Theological Studio in Catania, obtaining a baccalaureate in theology. Subsequently, at the Pontifical Gregorian University, he obtained a licentiate in Canon Law. He was ordained a priest on 2 January 1993 for the clergy of Catania. After ordination he was pastor of the parish of Valcorrente, a hamlet of Belpasso, from 1993 to 2002, and diocesan treasurer from 1999 to 2008. He was also episcopal vicar for economic affairs, member of the presbyteral council, procurator general of the archbishop, vice president of the Opera Catanese per il Culto e la Religione, member of the boards of administration of the Opera Pia dei Chierici Poveri, the Pio Istituto Educativo San Benedetto, and the Associazione Comitato Regina Pacis of Belpasso, and member of the steering committee of the Fondazione Michelangelo Virgilito of Palermo. He was also responsible for Communion and Liberation for Sicily. He has been Chaplain of His Holiness since 2006 and major canon of the cathedral chapter of Catania since 2012. From 2012 to April 2019 he was director of the National Office for Juridical Problems and secretary of the Council for Juridical Affairs of the Italian Episcopal Conference.
