Bishop of Cajamarca
Isaac Martínez Chuquizana, M.S.A., was born on January 1, 1954, in Huarochirí (Lima Region, Peru), where he completed his primary and secondary education, obtaining a degree in Agronomy in 1970. In 1975, he entered the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Holy Apostles, having previously studied Philosophy and Theology (1971–1976) at the Pontifical and Civil Faculty of Theology in Lima. He made his solemn vows on August 21, 1978, and was ordained a priest on May 1, 1979. He has held the following positions: Rector and head of formation at the Missionaries of the Holy Apostles Seminary in Peru (1982–1989); parish priest in Pevas, Apostolic Vicariate of San José del Amazonas, Peru (1986–1987); licentiate student in Missiology in Ottawa, Canada (1989–1991); General Councilor and head of formation (1991–1995), Secretary General (1995–2006), and Superior General—serving two five-year terms—of the Missionaries of the Holy Apostles of Montreal (2007–2017); international spiritual director of the *Foi et Lumière* (Faith and Light) movement (2009–2020); and General Delegate of his congregation for Foreign Missions, with an itinerant presence in Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (2017–2020). Most recently, he has been responsible for formation within the Peru-Brazil Delegation of the Missionaries of the Holy Apostles. In addition to Spanish, he speaks English and French.
