Bishop Francisco de Assis Gabriel dos Santos, C.Ss.R., was born on 5 February 1968 in Esperança, in the diocese of Campina Grande, in the State of Paraíba. He studied philosophy at the ITEP - Instituto Teológico e Pastoral do Ceará, and theology at the ITESP - Instituto São Paulo de Estudos Superiores. He gave his perpetual vows in 1999 and was ordained a priest on. 22 July 2000. He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro (2000-2002), member of the Presbyteral Council of the diocese of Garanhuns and coordinator of the Centre Pastoral Zone (2001-2002), rector of the Redemptorist Postulantate Beato Gaspare Stanggassinger (2003-2008), parish vicar of Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro (2004-2008) and Nossa Senhora do Rosário (2004-2010), rector of the Padre Pitiá House of Formation in Recife, and parish priest of Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro in Garanhuns (2011-2017). On 21 June 2017 he was appointed bishop of Campo Maior, in the State of Piauí, receiving episcopal ordination the following 26 August. He is currently vice-presidente of the Regional Nordeste 4 of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil.
