Archbishop Claudio Maniago

The Holy Father has appointed H.E. Msgr. Claudio Maniago as Metropolitan Archbishop of Catanzaro-Squillace, transferring him from the Diocese of Castellaneta. H.E. Msgr. Claudio Maniago was born on February 8, 1959, in Florence, in the province and archdiocese of the same name. After completing his classical high school studies, he entered the Major Seminary and attended the *Studio Teologico Fiorentino* (Florentine Theological Institute). A student at the *Almo Collegio Capranica*, he obtained a Licentiate in Liturgy from the Pontifical Atheneum of Saint Anselm. He was ordained a priest on April 19, 1984. From 1987 to 1994, he served as Rector of the Diocesan Minor Seminary, Director of the Diocesan Vocations Center, member of the Diocesan Pastoral Council, and Ecclesiastical Assistant to the Serra Club. In 1988, he became Master of Ceremonies for the Metropolitan Archbishop of Florence and began teaching Liturgy at the Theological Faculty of Central Italy; in 1991, he was appointed Director of the Diocesan Liturgical Office and a member of the Commission for Candidates for Holy Orders. From 1994, he served as Pro-Vicar General of the Metropolitan Archdiocese, Moderator of the Archdiocesan Curia, and Honorary Canon of the Cathedral of Florence; in 2001, he was appointed Vicar General. On July 18, 2003, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Satafi and Auxiliary Bishop of Florence, and was consecrated on September 8 of that year. In 2008, he was confirmed as Vicar General. On July 12, 2014, he was appointed Bishop of Castellaneta. From 2015 to 2021, he served as President of the Episcopal Commission for Liturgy (CEL) and of the Center for Liturgical Action (CAL). Since 2016, he has been a member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.
