Archbishop Gabriel Malzaire

Archbishop Gabriel Malzaire, Archbishop of Castries, was born on October 4, 1957, at Mon Repos, in Micoud, on Saint Lucia, in the Archdiocese of Castries. He entered the St. John Vianney and Uganda Martyrs regional seminary in Trinidad and Tobago, and he also studied in the United States, at Chicago, and in Rome. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Castries on July 28, 1985, and he received a doctorate in dogmatic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He served as parochial vicar and as parish priest, and as a professor at the regional seminary at Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago. On July 10, 2002, he was appointed Bishop of Roseau. He received episcopal ordination on October 4, 2002, at Roseau, with Kelvin Edward Felix as principal consecrator and Edward Joseph Gilbert and Edgerton Roland Clarke as co-consecrators. He was Apostolic Administrator of Saint John's-Basseterre from October 4, 2007, until February 8, 2012, and since 2017 he has been president of the Antilles Episcopal Conference. On February 11, 2022, he was appointed Archbishop of Castries and Apostolic Administrator of Roseau; he was installed at Castries on April 24, 2022, and he held the administration of Roseau until July 25, 2024.
