Bishop Giuseppe Mazzafaro

The Holy Father has appointed Msgr. Giuseppe Mazzafaro as Bishop of Cerreto Sannita-Telese-Sant’Agata de’ Goti. A member of the clergy of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Naples, he previously served as Parish Administrator of San Gennaro all’Olmo and as an advisor to the Archdiocese’s Episcopal Council. Msgr. Mazzafaro was born on February 11, 1955, in Naples, within the Metropolitan Archdiocese of the same name. After completing his secondary education, he worked as a sales representative for twenty years; during this time, through his involvement with the Community of Sant’Egidio and its charitable initiatives, he discerned his vocation. From 1995 to 2000, he prepared for the priesthood at the Archbishop's Seminary of Naples, receiving priestly ordination on October 11, 2000. He held the following positions: Parochial Vicar at the Basilica of Santa Maria di Pugliano, Naples (2000–2005); Parish Priest of Santa Caterina in Ercolano (2005–2010); and Parish Priest of Santa Maria dei Miracoli in Naples (2010–2014). Since 2000, he has served as the regional coordinator and youth formation leader for the Community of Sant’Egidio. From 2011, he served as Private Secretary to the Archbishop of Naples, collaborator in the Archdiocese’s charitable activities, President of the Assistance Committee for Religious Institutions, and head of services for the homeless; since 2019, he has been a Prelate of the Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro. Until his appointment, he served as Parish Administrator of San Gennaro all’Olmo in Naples, as well as a member of the Presbyteral Council and an advisor to the Episcopal Council of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Naples.
