Bishop Simon Kim Ju-young

Msgr. Simon Kim Ju-young was born on 3 March 1970. After secondary school he entered the major seminary and attended courses at Suwon Catholic University, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in theology (1993-1998). On 15 December 1998 he was ordained a priest for the diocese of Chunchon. After ordination he first served as parish vicar in Jumunjin, Imdang-dong and Juklim-dong (1998-2001). He then studied in Rome for a licentiate in Church history and cultural heritage at the Pontifical Gregorian University (2001-2006). He was subsequently head of the diocesan office for education (2006-2008); parish priest in Soyangro (2008-2010); head of the diocesan office for vocations (2010-2014); and parish priest in Smusoop (2014-2017). From 2006 to the present he has served as director of the Church History Research Centre and secretary of the Reconciliation Committee of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea.
