Bishop José Manuel Garita Herrera

Monsignor José Manuel Garita Herrera was born on March 26, 1965. His parents are Manuel Antonio Garita Brenes and Ana Mercedes Herrera González. He was ordained a priest on November 26, 1988, at the Central Seminary by Monsignor Román Arrieta Villalobos (may he rest in peace). His episcopal ordination took place on May 17, 2014, at the Cathedral of Ciudad Quesada; the ordaining bishop was Monsignor José Rafael Quirós Quirós. Monsignor José Manuel Garita holds a Licentiate degree in Canon Law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, having resided at the Pontifical Pio Latin American College (1991–1993). As a priest, he served in the following pastoral role: parochial vicar at Nuestra Señora del Carmen in San José.
