Bishop of Corumbá
João Batista de Oliveira, S.V.D., was born on July 9, 1963, in Rio Azul, in the Diocese of União da Vitória, in the State of Paraná. He is a member of the Society of the Divine Word (Divine Word Missionaries), having received his formation within the order since entering the *Seminário Verbo Divino* in Ponta Grossa, Paraná. He completed his studies in Philosophy at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná in Curitiba and in Theology at the *Instituto de Estudos Superiores de São Paulo*. He also completed training in History and Sociology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná and attended courses on Missiology in Mexico and on formation for formators in the Netherlands. On March 25, 2000, he made his perpetual vows at the Parish of São Pedro in Diadema, São Paulo, in the Diocese of Santo André. He was ordained a priest on February 24, 2001, at the Parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (*Sagrado Coração de Jesus*) in Rio Azul, in the Diocese of União da Vitória, Paraná. He has held the following positions: missionary in Ecuador (2001–2008), assistant formator at the *Seminário Verbo Divino* in Toledo, Paraná (2009), assistant vocation promoter for the Southern Brazil Province (*Província dos Verbitas Brasil Sul*) in Curitiba (2010), novice master at the *Seminário Verbo Divino* in Juquiá, São Paulo (2011–2016), and Provincial Superior of the Central Brazil Province (*Província Brasil Centro*) (2017–2022). Currently, he is the parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Penha in the Diocese of Ji-Paraná.
