Bishop of Crookston
Andrew H. Cozzens was born on August 3, 1968, in Stamford, Connecticut, in the Diocese of Bridgeport. He attended Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, earning a bachelor's degree in English Literature and Philosophy (1991). He was involved in youth evangelization as a Team Leader for the National Evangelization Teams (1991–1992) and subsequently as Co-Director of Campus Outreach for St. Paul’s Outreach (1992–1993) in the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota. After entering the seminary, he pursued theological studies at the Saint Paul Seminary School of Theology (1993–1997). Later, he obtained a Licentiate (2002) and a Doctorate (2008) in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome. Ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis on May 31, 1997, he served as parochial vicar at the Cathedral of Saint Paul in Saint Paul (1997–2000) and at the Sacred Heart–Saint Lawrence–Immaculate Conception parish in Faribault (2000–2002). During his studies in Rome, he served as chaplain for the Missionaries of Charity (2002–2006). He later served as Assistant Director of the Archdiocesan Office of Worship (2008–2010). He is currently an Assistant Professor, formator, and Director of Worship at the Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity in Saint Paul (since 2006); a member of the Mission Advisory Council and Corporate Board of the Institute for Priestly Formation in Omaha (since 2010) and of the St. Paul’s Outreach Board of Directors in Saint Paul (since 2011); and Co-Chaplain of the Twin Cities Serra Club (since 2011). He is a founding member of the diocesan priestly association Companions of Christ (since 1992). In addition to English, he speaks Spanish and Italian.
