Martin Waïngue Bani was born on February 12, 1963, in Laï, in the diocese of the same name. He studied philosophy and the first part of theology at the St. Augustine Provincial Major Seminary in Maroua-Mokolo, Cameroon. He completed his theological studies at the St. Luke National Major Seminary in Bakara, N’Djaména. He continued his studies in Rome, obtaining first a Licentiate and then a Doctorate in Dogmatic Theology. He was ordained a priest on July 8, 1991, and incardinated into the Diocese of Doba, transferring to the See of Laï upon its establishment. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: 1991–1995: Parish Priest of Ngamongo and Head of the Catechesis Center (Laï); 1995–1998: Rector of the St. Augustine Interdiocesan Minor Seminary in Bébédja; 1998–2000: Studies in Rome for a Licentiate in Theology at the Pontifical Urban University; 2000–2004: Parish Priest of Laï Cathedral and Vicar Forane of the Doba-East Region; 2001–2004: Vicar General of the Diocese of Laï; 2004–2010: Rector of the St. Luke National Major Seminary of Theology in Bakara (N’Djaména); 2010–2013: Studies in Rome for a Doctorate in Theology at the Pontifical Urban University; since 2013: Vicar General of the Diocese of Laï.
