Bishop of Dodge City
John Balthasar Brungardt is Bishop of Dodge City, Kansas, USA. John B. Brungardt was born on 10 July 1958 in Salina, Kansas, in the diocese of the same name. After attending Chapman High School in Chapman, Kansas, he obtained a B.A. in physics from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, in 1980; a master's degree in physics from Iowa State University in 1983; and a doctorate in science education from Kansas State University in 1993. For several years he was a science teacher at Collegiate High School and Kapuan Mount Carmel High School in Wichita, Kansas. In 1993 he entered the Pontifical College Josephinum for ecclesiastical studies. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Wichita on 23 May 1998. After ordination he carried out the following assignments: chaplain and religion teacher at Bishop Carroll High School in Wichita, from 1998 to 2001; parish priest of Sacred Heart Parish in Arkansas City, from 2001 to 2005; parish administrator of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Newton, from 2007 to 2008, and of Christ the King Parish in Wichita, from 2008 to 2009, and parish priest of the same parish, from 2009 to 2010. From 2005 he was chancellor and moderator of pastoral ministry for Hispanics, and from 2010 he was parish priest of Saint Mark Parish in Saint Mark. In addition to English, he knows Spanish.
