Archbishop of Hermosillo
He was born on October 27, 1953, in the city of Cadereyta Jiménez, Nuevo León. His parents were Mr. Juan José Rendón Vargas (†) and Mrs. Enriqueta Leal Leal (†). He was ordained a priest by the Most Reverend José de Jesús Tirado Pedraza on September 8, 1979, at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Monterrey, N.L. Parochial Vicar at the Church of Our Lady of Hope (part of Saint Anne Parish) in Monterrey, N.L. (1979–1980). Spiritual Director of the Institute of Philosophy and Prefect of Studies at the Minor Seminary of Monterrey (1980–1983). Vicar of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Monterrey, N.L. (1983–1985). Pastor of Saint John the Baptist Parish in García, N.L. (1985–1992). In September 1992, he was sent to Rome, Italy, where he obtained a Licentiate degree in Biblical Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University (1992–1995). Parish Administrator of Saint Peter the Apostle Parish in Monterrey, N.L. (May 1995). Pastor of Saint Philip of Jesus Parish in Monterrey, N.L. (1995–1996). Caminos de Oración* [Derakim: Paths of Prayer], San Pablo Publishing. 1) On September 28, 2005, His Holiness Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of the Prelature of El Salto; he received episcopal ordination on November 30 of the same year. 2) On July 16, 2011, His Holiness Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of the Diocese of Matamoros. He took office on September 3 of the same year. 3) On April 26, 2016, His Holiness Francis appointed him Archbishop of Hermosillo. He took office on June 8 of the same year. He received the archiepiscopal pallium on February 10, 2017. 1) Member of the Synod of Bishops on the Word of God (2008). 2) Bishop responsible for Prophetic Pastoral Care (2011–2016) in the Ecclesiastical Province of Monterrey. 1) Alternate member of the Permanent Council of the Ecclesiastical Province of Durango (2006–2009 and 2009–2012 terms). 2) Member of the Episcopal Commission for the Pontifical University of Mexico (2006–2009 and 2009–2012 terms). 3) Member of the Episcopal Commission for Interreligious Dialogue and Communion (2012–2015 term). 4) Delegate to the Permanent Council of the Ecclesiastical Province of Monterrey (2015–2018 term). 5) Head of the Episcopal Dimension for Pastoral Care of the Armed Forces (2018–2021 term).
