Archbishop Stephan Burger

Stephan Burger is Archbishop of Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. Stephan Burger was born on 29 April 1962 in Freiburg im Breisgau. After the maturity examination he completed theological studies at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Freiburg im Breisgau. He was ordained a priest on 20 May 1990, being incardinated in the Archdiocese of Freiburg im Breisgau. He subsequently served as assistant parish priest of the parishes of St. Martin in Tauberbischofsheim and St. Franziskus in Pforzheim. From 1995 he was first parish administrator and then, from 1996, parish priest of St. Mauritius Parish in St. Leon-Rot. In 2006 he obtained a licentiate in canon law from the Faculty of Theology of the University of Münster, becoming promoter of justice at the tribunal of the Archdiocese of Freiburg im Breisgau and, one year later, judicial vicar of the same archdiocese. At the time of the source, he also served at a parish in Kaiserstuhl-Burkheim, where he also resided. In 2013 he was appointed canon of the cathedral chapter.
