Bishop Ihor Rantsya

H.E. Kyr Ihor Rantsya was born on March 8, 1978, in Opilsko (Sheptytskyi, Lviv region). After completing his secondary education, he earned a Master’s degree and a Doctorate in Geography from the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. He served as a lecturer in economic and social geography at the same university. Beginning in 2008, he underwent formation at the Major Seminary in Lviv and studied at the Ukrainian Catholic University, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Theology. From 2014 to 2025, he continued his studies at the Catholic Institute of Paris, earning a Licentiate in Ecumenical Theology and completing his Doctorate in the current year. He has authored several publications on ecclesiological and ecumenical topics. He was ordained a priest on March 29, 2015, in Paris for the Ukrainian Archeparchy of Lviv and was subsequently assigned to the Eparchy of Saint Volodymyr-le-Grand in Paris for Byzantine-rite Ukrainians: from 2016 to 2019, he served as pastor of the "All Saints" Byzantine parish in Vincennes; from 2017 to 2019, he also served as parochial vicar at the Eparchial Cathedral in Paris; from 2019 to 2022, he was the parish administrator of the Cathedral; and from 2019 to 2021, he directed the Eparchial Commission for Ecumenical and Interreligious Relations. Since 2019, he has represented the Eparchy on the Pastoral Council of the Patriarchal Curia of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, and since March 21, 2022, he has served as the Protosyncellus of the Eparchy.
