Bishop Robert Michael Miranda

Bishop Robert Michael Miranda, Bishop of Gulbarga, was born on April 10, 1952, in Kirem, in the Diocese of Mangalore. He attended the local Catholic school at Kirem for his primary and middle schooling and St. Aloysius College in Mangalore for his higher secondary studies, and he made his ecclesiastical studies at St. Joseph's Major Seminary in Mangalore. He was ordained a priest on May 4, 1978, at Mangalore. He began his ministry as parochial vicar at Moodubelle and then at the cathedral. In 1982 he was charged with opening the mission of Bidar, a region of significant pastoral need, and in 1999 he was appointed episcopal vicar of that mission. On June 24, 2005, the Diocese of Gulbarga was erected in northern Karnataka and he was appointed its first bishop. He received episcopal ordination on August 18, 2005, at Gulbarga.
