Bishop of Hải Phòng
Bishop Vincent Nguyễn Văn Bản, Bishop of Hải Phòng, was born on November 25, 1956, in the parish of Tuy Hòa, Phu Yen, in the Diocese of Quy Nhơn. A student of the minor seminary of Quy Nhơn (1968-1975), he completed his studies in philosophy and theology at the diocesan formation centre, the major seminary, at Mang Lang, Tuy An, Phu Yen (1975-1988). During his years of study he worked and gave pastoral service in the parish of Tuy Hòa (1988-1993). He was ordained a priest for Quy Nhơn on September 16, 1993. After ordination he served as parochial vicar of Tuy Hòa (1993-1996) and studied at the Institut Catholique in Paris (1996-2005), where he obtained a maîtrise in biblical theology. From 2005 he was responsible for the formation of the seminarians of the Diocese of Quy Nhơn while also teaching at the major seminary of Nha Trang, and he was appointed an expert of the Twelfth Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in October 2008. On February 21, 2009, he was appointed Bishop of Ban Mê Thuột. He received episcopal ordination on May 12, 2009, at Ban Mê Thuột, with Étienne Nguyễn Như Thể as principal consecrator and Joseph Châu Ngọc Tri and Joseph Võ Đức Minh as co-consecrators. On March 19, 2022, he was appointed Apostolic Administrator of Ban Mê Thuột and Bishop of Hải Phòng, ceasing to hold both the see of Ban Mê Thuột and that administratorship on August 22, 2024.
