Bishop of Huánuco
Bishop Pedro Alberto Bustamante López, Bishop of Huánuco, was born on 9 January 1965 in Cotaparaco, Recuay, in the Diocese of Huaraz, in the ecclesiastical province of Trujillo in northern Peru. He attended the Archdiocesan Seminary San Jerónimo of Arequipa in 1986-1992 and was ordained presbyter for the same archdiocese on 7 December 1992. After working for 3 years as pastor in the parish of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, he attended the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, obtaining a licentiate in dogmatic theology. Returning to the diocese, he was pastor in 2 other parishes: Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in 1998-1999 and Santa Gertrudis in 1999-2005. From 2005 to 2013 he was pastor of San Agustín - El Sagrario. While carrying out his parish ministry, he was also pro-vicar general from 1999 to 2006, episcopal vicar from 2007 to 2010, and vicar general of the archdiocese from 2011 to 2013. In the last 20 years he also worked as school chaplain, spiritual director, confessor, and professor at the Archdiocesan Seminary. The source-era biography also says that at that time he taught Social Doctrine of the Church at the Catholic University of Arequipa and was a member of the presbyteral council and the college of consultors. On 10 July 2013 he was elected Bishop Prelate of Sicuani and received episcopal ordination on the following 15 August. On 29 September 2020, the Holy Father erected the Territorial Prelature of Sicuani as a diocese and he was appointed first bishop of the see. From 7 April 2021, he was apostolic administrator of the Territorial Prelature of Ayaviri.
