Bishop of Huaraz
Bishop José Antonio Alarcón Gómez, Bishop of Huaraz, Peru, was born on 28 February 1965 in Lima, in the District of Chorrillos. Having entered the community of the Capuchin Friars Minor, he made perpetual profession on 4 October 1990. He later obtained a licentiate in theology at the Catholic University of Santa María of Arequipa. He was ordained a priest on 30 July 1993. He held the following positions: courses for formators at the Pontifical Antonianum University in Rome from 1993 to 1995; parish priest of Virgen Inmaculada Concepción of Orcopampa, Arequipa, and formator in the postulancy from 1995 to 1998; treasurer of the Province of the Capuchin Fathers of Peru from 1999 to 2002; parish priest of San Pedro, Chorrillos, Lima, in 2003; provincial of the Capuchin Fathers of Peru from 2004 to 2008 and from 2011 to 2017; superior at the Colegio Mayor of Arequipa from 2008 to 2011; parish priest of San Francisco, Huánuco; moderator of the Curia of Huánuco, treasurer of the diocese, and episcopal vicar for consecrated life from 2017 to 2019; from 2020, superior of the Community of Capuchin Fathers; and, from 2024, parochial vicar of San Pedro, Chorrillos, Lima.
