Archbishop Orlando Roa Barbosa

Monsignor Orlando Roa Barbosa was born in Cali on July 4, 1958. He completed his secondary education at the Minor Seminary of Ibagué. He undertook his initial years of philosophy studies at the Garzón Seminary as a seminarian for Ibagué, and spent the remainder of his priestly formation at the Major Seminary of Ibagué. Between 1993 and 1995, Father Orlando pursued specialized studies in Dogmatic Theology at the University of the Holy Cross in Rome; he also obtained a licentiate degree in Philosophy and Religious Sciences from the Catholic University of the East and has attended various courses on missionary and priestly spirituality. He was ordained a priest on December 6, 1984, by Monsignor Angelo Acerbi for the Archdiocese of Ibagué. He also served on the Archdiocese's Presbyteral Council and College of Consultors. On May 12, 2012, His Holiness Benedict XVI appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of Ibagué, raising him to the dignity of Titular Bishop of Nasbinca; he received episcopal ordination on July 28 of that same year. On May 30, 2015, His Holiness Francis appointed him Bishop of El Espinal. He took possession of the assigned see on July 18 of that same year. On May 29, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Ibagué. He took possession of this archiepiscopal see on July 18 of that same year.
