Bishop José Rico Pavés

José Rico Pavés was born in Granada on October 9, 1966. He completed his ecclesiastical studies in Toledo at the San Ildefonso Major Seminary (1985–1992), residing at the Santa Leocadia Seminary for adult vocations, where, between 1987 and 1989, he took courses in spirituality and classical languages. During that period, he translated two patristic works by Saint Gregory the Great for the publisher Ciudad Nueva. Ordained a priest in Toledo on October 11, 1992, by the late Cardinal Primate of Spain, Marcelo González Martín, he subsequently held the following positions: Parochial Vicar of Corpus Christi in Granada and Chaplain to the private association of the faithful *Acción Católica Social* (ACYS), based in Granada (1994–1995); Adjunct Professor at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1996–1998); and Parish Priest of *Nuestra Señora de la Purificación* in Nambroca, Toledo (1998–2001). He obtained a Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology (1994) and a Doctorate in Patristic Theology (1998) from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, receiving a medal for his thesis. He is the author of *Semejanza a Dios y divinización en el Corpus Dionysiacum* (Toledo, 2001), *Escatología cristiana. Para comprender qué hay tras la muerte. Introducción teológica* (Murcia, 2002), and numerous theological articles. In addition to Spanish, he is proficient in Italian, French, English, German, Latin, and Greek. He is currently the Director of the Secretariat of the Episcopal Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith of the Spanish Episcopal Conference (since 2001), as well as a Full Professor (since 1998), Director of Publications (since 2002), and Director (since 2008) of the San Ildefonso Theological Institute in Toledo. Professor of Dogmatics and Patrology at the San Dámaso Faculty of Theology in Madrid (since 1999); Ordinary Professor at the Institute of Spiritual Theology in Barcelona (since 1996); Collaborator at the Parish of Santo Tomé in Toledo (since 2001); Director of the Secretariat for the Doctrine of the Faith and Ecumenism of the Archdiocese of Toledo (since 2005).
