Archbishop Benny Mario Travas

Archbishop Benny Mario Travas, Archbishop of Karachi, was born on November 21, 1966, in Karachi. After his studies at the minor and major seminaries of Karachi he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Karachi on December 7, 1990. After seven years of pastoral ministry he was sent to Rome for the licentiate in canon law, which he obtained at the Pontifical Urban University in 1997. On his return home he served as vicar general of Karachi and at the same time as rector of the St. Pius X minor seminary of the archdiocese and as a professor at the National Catholic Institute of Theology in Karachi, and he was also a judge of the ecclesiastical tribunal of Karachi and a member of the college of consultors and of the presbyteral council. On June 13, 2014, he was appointed Apostolic Administrator of Multan. On May 29, 2015, he was appointed Bishop of Multan. He received episcopal ordination on August 15, 2015, at Multan, with Ghaleb Moussa Abdalla Bader as principal consecrator and Joseph Coutts and Sebastian Francis Shaw as co-consecrators. On February 11, 2021, he was appointed Archbishop of Karachi, and he was installed on April 11, 2021. He also served as Apostolic Administrator of Lahore from August 18, 2024, until March 28, 2026.
