Jonas Dembélé was born on May 15, 1963, in Sokoura, in the Diocese of San. After completing his primary and middle school education, he entered the Major Seminary in Bamako, Mali, for philosophy studies and attended the Major Seminary in Koumi (Archdiocese of Bobo-Dioulasso), Burkina Faso, for theology studies. He was ordained a priest on July 12, 1992. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: 1992–1996: Parochial Vicar at Saint Jean Bosco Parish in Touba; 1996–2008: Parish Priest of Notre Dame de Lourdes Cathedral in San; 2002–2008: Secretary General of the Diocesan Clergy Union of San and the National Clergy Union of Mali (U.P.M.); 2008–2010: Pastoral Theology studies at the Lumen Vitae Institute in Brussels, earning a Master’s degree in Practical Theology with a focus on Society and Development; since 2011: Parish Priest of Yasso Parish (currently under construction).
