Bishop of Kayanga
Bishop Almachius Vincent Rweyongeza, Bishop of Kayanga, was born on January 1, 1956, in the village of Bushagara-Kamachumu, in the parish of Rutabo, in the Diocese of Bukoba. He completed his primary studies at the Rutabo mission school and at Rutabo Preparatory Seminary until 1970, and his secondary studies at Rubya Junior Seminary (1971-1974). He studied philosophy at the major seminary of Ntungamo (1975-1976) and theology at the major seminary of Kipalapala (1977-1981). He was ordained a priest on December 6, 1981, and incardinated in the Diocese of Bukoba. He then served as parochial vicar in a parish of Bukoba (1982-1983); parish priest at Mungana in the Diocese of Bukoba (1984-1985); lecturer at the major seminary of Segerea (1985-1986); and, after studies in Rome at the Pontifical Urban University for a licentiate in biblical theology (1986-1988), lecturer in sacred scripture at the major seminary of Ntungamo and concurrently vice-rector of the same seminary (1989-1999). From 1999 he served as vicar general of the Diocese of Bukoba. On August 14, 2008, he was appointed Bishop of Kayanga. He received episcopal ordination on November 6, 2008, at Kayanga, with Polycarp Pengo as principal consecrator and Severine Niwemugizi and Nestorius Timanywa as co-consecrators.
