Bishop Cornelius Piong, Bishop of Keningau, was born on July 1, 1949, in Bundu, Malaysia, in the Diocese of Kota Kinabalu. He was ordained a priest for Kota Kinabalu on March 27, 1977. On December 17, 1992, he was appointed Bishop of Keningau. He received episcopal ordination on May 6, 1993, at Kampung Tuarid Taud, with Peter Chung Hoan Ting as principal consecrator and Anthony Soter Fernandez and John Lee Hiong Fun-Yit Yaw as co-consecrators.
