Bishop of Kharkiv-Zaporizhia
Bishop Pavlo Honcharuk was born on January 16, 1978, in the village of Kornachivka, Yarmolyntsi District, Khmelnytskyi Region. He underwent priestly formation at the Holy Spirit Major Seminary in Horodok. He obtained a licentiate degree in Canon Law from Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, Poland. Following his ordination to the priesthood on June 22, 2002, Fr. Pavlo served in pastoral ministry within the Diocese of Kamianets-Podilskyi. From 2003, he headed the diocesan branch of "Caritas-Spes"; from 2005 to 2016, he served as Defender of the Bond in the diocesan ecclesiastical tribunal, and in 2016, he was appointed a judge of that tribunal. Additionally, he served as the diocesan bursar and as a military chaplain. He is fluent in Ukrainian, Polish, Russian, Italian, and German. On January 6, 2020, the Holy Father, Pope Francis, appointed Fr. Pavlo Honcharuk as Bishop of the Diocese of Kharkiv-Zaporizhzhia. Bishop Pavlo Honcharuk’s episcopal ordination took place on February 14, 2020, at the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kharkiv.
