Bishop of Kilwa-Kasenga
Désiré Lenge Mukwenye was born on March 2, 1966, in Lwanza. He studied Philosophy and Theology at the Saint-Paul Major Seminary in Kambikila, Lubumbashi. After spending a year at Saint André Parish in Kilwa, he was ordained a priest on July 31, 1994. He held the following positions and pursued further studies: Parish Priest of Saint Charles Lwanga in Lupembe (1994–1998); Procurator of the Diocese of Lubumbashi (1998–2002); Parochial Vicar at Santa Maria della Speranza, Diocese of Rome (2003–2008); Licentiate in Biblical Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (2003–2008); Collaborator at the parishes of Immacolata Concezione and Spirito Santo in Torre Annunziata, Archdiocese of Naples (2008–2011); Licentiate in Biblical Spirituality from the Pontifical Gregorian University (2008–2010); doctoral research in Münster, Germany (2011–2012); Lecturer and Spiritual Director at the Saint-Paul Seminary in Lubumbashi (2013–2016); Doctorate in Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University (2016); Provincial Secretary for formation and studies (2016–2019); Vicar General of the Diocese of Kilwa-Kasenga (2018–2021). Since 2016, he has served as Rector of the Université Technologique Katumba Mwanke and as a professor at the Lubumbashi Seminary; since 2021, he has been the Diocesan Administrator of Kilwa-Kasenga.
