Bishop of Kondoa
Bernardine Mfumbusa was born in Arusha on April 1, 1962. After attending primary school in Mpalangwi, Kondoa, from 1971 to 1978, he entered St. Peter’s Minor Seminary in Morogoro, where he studied from 1979 to 1984. Subsequently, he completed his philosophy studies at Kibosho Major Seminary in Moshi (1985–1986). He was sent to study theology at Segerea Major Seminary in Dar es Salaam, remaining there from 1987 to 1992 and obtaining a Baccalaureate from the Pontifical Urban University. He was ordained a priest on June 14, 1992, at the parish church in Kondoa, and incardinated into the Diocese of Dodoma. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: 1992–1993: Parochial Vicar at Ovada Parish, Dodoma; 1993–1995: Diocesan Director of the Lay Apostolate and Parochial Vicar at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Dodoma, as well as a teacher at Bihawana Junior Seminary, Dodoma; 1995–1999: Journalism courses at the Nyegezi Social Training Institute in Mwanza (obtaining a diploma) and a brief period as a Tutorial Assistant at St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) in Mwanza; 2000–2004: Doctoral studies in Social Communications at the Pontifical Gregorian University; 2004–2007: Lecturer in Media Ethics and Head of the Journalism Department at SAUT, Mwanza; Since 2007: Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs at SAUT.
