Bishop of Langres
Joseph de Metz-Noblat was born on February 6, 1959, in Cherbourg, in the Diocese of Coutances. He studied civil law and completed his studies in philosophy and theology at the Major Seminary of Metz, obtaining a Licentiate in Canon Law from the Institut Catholique de Paris. He was ordained a priest on May 28, 1987, and incardinated into the Diocese of Verdun. He held the following positions: parochial vicar at Saint-Michel and later at Commercy; parish priest at Triaucourt-et-Rembercourt and at Verdun; chaplain of the *Mouvement Eucharistique des Jeunes* (Eucharistic Youth Movement); head of the diocesan service for vocations and youth ministry; superior of the Saint Jean-Baptiste Interdiocesan Propaedeutic Seminary in Nancy; Defender of the Bond and later Adjunct Judicial Vicar of the Interdiocesan Tribunal; National Director of the Apostolic Union of the Clergy; and Vicar General of Verdun. On January 21, 2014, he was appointed Bishop of Langres and received episcopal ordination on the following March 16.
