Bishop René Sócrates Sándigo Jirón

Sócrates René Sándigo Jirón was born in Diriá, in the Diocese of Granada, on April 19, 1965. He pursued his studies in philosophy at the Interdiocesan Seminary of Managua and in theology at the Major Seminary of Medellín (Colombia). He obtained a Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical Bolivarian University in Medellín (Colombia) and a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Granada on July 11, 1992. As a priest, he subsequently held the following pastoral roles: parochial vicar of the San Antonio María Claret and El Salvador parishes in Medellín (Colombia). Upon returning to Nicaragua, he served as pastor of San Pedro in Diriá, the first Rector of the Major Seminary of Granada, and Episcopal Vicar for the Rivas Region and pastor of San Jorge. He was appointed Bishop of Juigalpa (Nicaragua) on October 28, 2004, and received episcopal ordination on January 22, 2005.
