Bishop John Stowe, O.F.M.Conv., Bishop of Lexington, was born on April 15, 1966, in Amherst, Ohio. After attending Lorain Catholic High School, he obtained bachelor's degrees in philosophy and history from Saint Louis University in 1990, and subsequently a master of divinity and a licentiate in church history from the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, California. He made his solemn vows on August 1, 1992, and was ordained a priest for the Conventual Franciscans on September 16, 1995. He then served as assistant parish priest (1995-1997), administrator (1997-2000) and parish priest (2000-2003) of Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish in El Paso, Texas; vicar general of the Diocese of El Paso (2003-2010); administrator of Our Lady of the Valley parish in El Paso (2006-2010); and chancellor of the Diocese of El Paso (2008-2010). From 2010 he served as vicar provincial of the Our Lady of Consolation Conventual Franciscan Province and rector of the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation at Carey, Ohio. Besides English, he speaks Spanish. On March 12, 2015, he was appointed Bishop of Lexington, and he received episcopal ordination on May 5, 2015.
