Bishop of Liège
Father Jean-Pierre Delville was born on April 29, 1951, in Liège, in the diocese of the same name. After completing his higher education at the University of Liège, where he obtained a Licentiate in History, he entered the seminary. Subsequently, he earned a Licentiate in Philosophy from the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve. He studied in Rome at the Pontifical Gregorian University, obtaining a Baccalaureate in Theology. He then attended the Biblical Institute, earning a Licentiate in Biblical Sciences. He holds doctorates in Biblical Philology and in Philosophy and Letters from the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve. He was ordained a priest on September 6, 1980, for the Diocese of Liège. Following his ordination, he held the following ministerial positions: parochial vicar at the Saint-Foy parish in Liège (1980–1982); professor at the Liège Seminary (1982–1995); simultaneously, he taught at the *Institut Supérieur de Catéchèse et Pastorale de Liège* (1982–2002); he then became a professor and subsequently the President (Rector) of the Saint-Paul Seminary in Louvain. Since 2002, he has taught courses on the history of Christianity at the Faculty of Theology of the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve, becoming a professor there in 2005 and a full professor in 2010. He served first as Secretary and then as Director of the *Revue d’Histoire ecclésiastique* at the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve. He has authored numerous articles for this journal. He is also the head of the Saint-Paul Foundation in Louvain-la-Neuve, President of the *Institut de recherche Religions, Spiritualités, Cultures, Sociétés* at the University of Louvain-la-Neuve, and President of the Liège Seminary library. Since 1995, he has served as a coordinator for the Community of Sant’Egidio in the Diocese of Liège. Currently, he also serves as a parochial vicar for Sunday celebrations at the Saint-Lambert parish in Liège. From 1996 to 2002, he served as spokesperson for the Bishops' Conference.
