Bishop Manfred Scheuer

Manfred Scheuer was born in Haibach ob der Donau (Diocese of Linz) on August 10, 1955. He pursued his philosophical and theological studies first at the Theological Faculty of Linz and later in Rome at the Pontifical Gregorian University, while residing at the Pontifical Germanic-Hungarian College. He was ordained a priest on October 10, 1980, in Rome, and was incardinated into the Diocese of Linz. From 1981 to 1985, he served as an assistant priest, first in Steyr and then in St. Georgen an der Gusen. From 1985 to 1988, he was an assistant at the Institute for Dogmatic and Ecumenical Theology at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany), where he also obtained his doctorate. From 1988 to 1996, he served as spiritual director of the Major Seminary in Linz and as a lecturer in spirituality at the Theological Faculty there. In 1999, he obtained his *Habilitation* in Freiburg im Breisgau. That same year, he was appointed moderator of the Linz Cathedral parish. At the same time, he served as a lecturer in dogmatic theology at the Philosophical-Theological College in St. Pölten. From 2000, he was a professor of dogmatic theology at the Theological Faculty of Trier. On October 21, 2003, he was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Innsbruck, receiving episcopal consecration on the following December 14.
