Bishop Luigi Ernesto Palletti

Luigi Ernesto Palletti was born in Genoa on October 29, 1956. After completing lower secondary school, he enrolled at the "Nicolò Paganini" Conservatory in Genoa, where he pursued musical studies and obtained a diploma in piano in 1978. He entered the Major Seminary of Genoa at the age of 20 and attended theological courses at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy (Genoa Section). He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1983, in Genoa—his diocese of origin, affiliation, and residence. From 1983 to 1989, he served as parochial vicar at the parish of San Giacomo Maggiore in Genoa-Pontedecimo and taught religion. In 1989, he was transferred to the parish of San Giovanni Battista in Genoa-Sestri Ponente, serving there until 1996. In 1994, he became a member of the "Commission for the Permanent Diaconate," and in 1995, he was appointed spiritual guide at the Minor Seminary. In 1996, he was named Chancellor General and a member of the Diocesan Presbyteral Council, Secretary of the Episcopal Council, and a member of the "New Commission for the Boundaries of the Archdiocese of Genoa." Since 1998, he has been a Canon of the Cathedral Chapter, and from 2001 to 2004, he served as Spiritual Director of the Archdiocesan Seminary. He was the assistant for the "Lay Oblates of the Diocese" in the central zone and a board member for various foundations, including the *Opera Pia* "Albergo dei Fanciulli." Appointed to the titular see of Fondi and as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Genoa on December 18, 2004, he received episcopal consecration on January 16, 2005.
