Archbishop of Lucca
Paolo Giulietti was born in Perugia (Archdiocese of Perugia-Città della Pieve) on January 1, 1964. After completing his classical high school studies in Perugia, he pursued philosophy and theology courses at the Theological Institute of Assisi as a student of the Pontifical Regional Seminary of Umbria. He subsequently furthered his studies at the Pontifical Salesian University, where he obtained a Licentiate in Theology, specializing in Youth Pastoral Care and Catechetics. He was ordained a priest on September 29, 1991, and incardinated into the Archdiocese of Perugia-Città della Pieve. From 1991 to 2001, he served as Parochial Vicar of San Sisto in Perugia and as chaplain to the youth of Catholic Action and to volunteers assisting prisoners on provisional release; from 1996 to 2014, he was the Spiritual Assistant to the Confraternity of Saint James of Compostela; from 2001 to 2007, he served as Director of the National Office for Youth Pastoral Care at the Italian Episcopal Conference; from 2007 to 2010, he served as Parish Priest of San Bartolomeo Apostolo in Ponte San Giovanni (Perugia); and since 2010, he has held the office of Vicar General of the same Archdiocese. Msgr. Giulietti also serves as Moderator of the Curia; since 1998, he has been a Canon-Sacristan of the Cathedral of San Lorenzo in Perugia, a member of the College of Consultors and the Presbyteral Council, and Coordinator and Rapporteur for the Regional Presbyteral Commission of the Umbrian Episcopal Conference, as well as the Regional Coordinator for "Itineraries of Faith" (faith journey programs). He has been a Chaplain of His Holiness since July 25, 2005.
