Alain de Raemy was born on April 19, 1959, in Barcelona (Spain). He pursued his philosophical and theological studies at the University of Fribourg, obtaining a Licentiate in Theology in 1984. He was ordained a priest on October 25, 1986, and incardinated into the Diocese of Lausanne, Geneva, and Fribourg. After serving pastorally in various parishes, he was appointed parish priest of Christ the King (Christ-Roi) in Fribourg in 1996. In 2004, he was named parish priest and Canon of St. Nicholas Cathedral and, subsequently, moderator of the "Notre Dame" Pastoral Unit, also in Fribourg. Finally, in 2006, he was appointed Chaplain of the Pontifical Swiss Guard at the Vatican.
