Cardinal Leopoldo José Brenes Solórzano

Leopoldo José Brenes Solórzano is Cardinal-Priest of San Gioacchino ai Prati di Castello. Leopoldo José Brenes Solórzano was born in Ticuantepe, Archdiocese of Managua, on 7 March 1949. He completed ecclesiastical studies in philosophy and theology at the National Seminary of Managua and the conciliar seminary of the Archdiocese of México. He obtained the licentiate in sacred theology at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. He was ordained a priest in Managua on 16 August 1974. As a priest he held, among others, the following offices: parish priest of Tisma, parish priest of Las Brisas, parish priest of La Asunción, and parish priest of Saint Pius X in Managua. He was also vicar for pastoral ministry and substitute vicar general of Managua. On 13 February 1988 he was appointed titular bishop of Maturba and auxiliary of Managua. He received episcopal ordination on 19 March 1988. He was appointed Bishop of Matagalpa on 2 November 1991.
