Bishop John Derek Persaud

The Holy Father, Pope Francis, has appointed Most Reverend Fr. John Derek Persaud, Bishop of the Diocese of Mandeville, Jamaica. Fr. John Persaud was born in Georgetown, Guyana, on 28th August 1956. He attended the Major Seminary of Saint John Vianney and Uganda Martyrs in Trinidad (1975-1984). His ordination as diocesan priest took place on 14th July, 1985 for the Diocese of Georgetown, Guyana. He was awarded a licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical Urban University (PUU) in Rome (1997-1999). Fr. Persaud has served in his home Diocese of Georgetown, Guyana in various capacities: Parish Priest, Administrator of the Cathedral, Judicial Vicar, Vicar General, Vicar for Clergy, Director of Vocations and Director of Religious Education. He has also served the wider Caribbean Church as Judicial Vicar of the Eastern Antilles Interdiocesan Tribunal and as the General Secretary of the Antilles Episcopal Conference. Currently, he serves as the Vicar General and Cathedral Administrator in Georgetown.
