Archdiocese of Maputo

João Carlos Hatoa Nunes was born on March 8, 1968, in Beira, in the province and Archdiocese of Beira. After completing his primary (1975–78) and secondary (1979–85) education, he entered the Cristo Rei Intermediate Seminary in Maputo in 1986. In 1988, he began his philosophical studies at the St. Augustine Interdiocesan Philosophical Seminary in Matola, completing them in 1990. He then continued his studies at the St. Pius X Interdiocesan Theological Seminary, where he finished his priestly formation in 1994, obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Theology. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Maputo on July 17, 1995. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: 1995–2002: Parochial Vicar of the Nossa Senhora das Graças parish, as well as Chancellor and Bursar of the Archdiocese; 2003–2006: Director of Radio Maria Mozambique; 2005–2007: Parochial Vicar of the Maputo Cathedral; 2007–2008: Parish Priest of the São Francisco de Assis parish; 2007–2009: Licentiate degree in Educational Planning, Administration, and Management from the Pedagogical University of Mozambique; since 2009: Episcopal Vicar for the Southern Region, Chancellor of the Curia, and Parish Priest of the São Francisco de Assis parish. He currently also serves as Pro-Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Maputo.
