Archbishop of Mercedes-Luján
Archbishop Jorge Eduardo Scheinig, Archbishop of Mercedes-Luján, was born on July 5, 1959, in Carapachay, in the Diocese of San Isidro. He was ordained a priest for San Isidro on December 9, 1983, in San Isidro, and holds a licentiate in pastoral theology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina. As a priest he served as diocesan assessor for youth, assessor of the national youth team of the Argentine Episcopal Conference, coordinator of the pastoral council of the Diocese of San Isidro, consultor of the commission for faith and culture of the Argentine Episcopal Conference, pastoral assessor of Caritas Argentina, pastoral director of the San Martín de Tours school in San Fernando and the San Gabriel school in Vicente López, coordinator of the urban ministry team for the Buenos Aires and Greater Buenos Aires region, and professor of pastoral theology at the seminary of the Diocese of San Isidro and in the Faculty of Theology of the Catholic University of Argentina. He was also parochial vicar of Resurrección del Señor in Martínez (1984-1990) and parish priest of San Pedro y San Pablo in San Fernando (1991-1997), of Nuestra Señora de Aránzazu in San Fernando (1998-2008), of La Purísima in General Pacheco (2009-2010) and of San Gabriel de la Dolorosa in Vicente López. On May 18, 2017, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Ita and Auxiliary Bishop of Mercedes-Luján. He received episcopal ordination on July 15, 2017, at Luján, with Agustín Roberto Radrizzani as principal consecrator and Alcides Jorge Pedro Casaretto and Óscar Vicente Ojea Quintana as co-consecrators. On October 4, 2019, he was appointed Archbishop of Mercedes-Luján, and he was installed on November 9, 2019.
