Bishop of Argentina
Santiago Olivera was born on January 7, 1959, in Buenos Aires (Argentina). He completed his secondary education at the Marist Brothers’ "San José" Institute in Morón and, upon entering the seminary, pursued his ecclesiastical studies at the "San José" Institute of Philosophy and Theology within the Morón diocesan seminary. In 1986, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Theology from the Faculty of Theology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina. In 2007, he attended various courses on spirituality at the "Teresianum" and the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome. He was ordained a priest on September 18, 1984, and incardinated into the Diocese of Morón. He held various pastoral roles: Parish Priest of the Holy Mother of God parish in Villa Tesei, Spiritual Director at the seminary, Episcopal Delegate for Liturgy and for Vocations Ministry, Secretary and Chancellor of the Curia, and Pro-Vicar and subsequently Vicar General of the Diocese of Morón. On June 24, 2008, he was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Cruz del Eje, receiving episcopal consecration on August 18 of that year. As Bishop of Cruz del Eje, he initiated and promoted the canonization cause of the priest José Gabriel del Rosario Brochero. In November 2008, he was appointed Episcopal Delegate for the Causes of Saints and a member of the Episcopal Commission for Ministries within the Argentine Episcopal Conference—a role he held until 2014. In 2013, he was appointed Vice-Postulator for the canonization cause of the Servant of God María Antonia de Paz y Figueroa. Since November 2014, he has served as President of the Episcopal Commission for Social Communication of the Argentine Episcopal Conference and as a member of the Conference's Permanent Commission. H.E. Msgr. Santiago Olivera is the author of various publications on spirituality and meditations. Santiago Olivera was born on January 7, 1959, in Buenos Aires. He served as parish priest of the Holy Mother of God parish in Villa Tesei from 1985 to 1997; during this period, he also held the roles of spiritual director at the seminary and episcopal delegate for liturgy and vocation ministry. Furthermore, he served as secretary and chancellor of the Curia from 1988 to 1990, at which time he was appointed pro-vicar general. From 1994, he served as vicar general of the Diocese of Morón.
