Bishop of Montelibano
Monsignor Farly Yovany Gil Betancur was born in Donmatías (Antioquia) on June 29, 1974. He received his priestly formation at the Saint Thomas Aquinas Diocesan Seminary in Santa Rosa de Osos. He was ordained a priest on November 21, 2000, by Monsignor Jairo Jaramillo Monsalve. He holds a degree in Philosophy and Religious Education from the Fundación Universitaria Católica del Norte (FUCN) and a doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. He has held the following positions: Parochial Vicar of Angostura (Shrine of Father Marianito), December 29, 2000 to March 8, 2001 (29-12-2000 to 08-3-2001); Parochial Vicar of the Basilica of Our Lady of Mercy (Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes) in Yarumal, March 9, 2001 to December 30, 2001 (09-3-2001 to 30-12-2001); Formator and Prefect of the Minor Seminary of the Diocese of Santa Rosa de Osos, January 2, 2002 to June 18, 2005 (02-I-2002 to 18-6-2005); Canon Law student and attached to San José Obrero Parish in Bogotá, July 5, 2005 to December 15, 2009 (05-7-2005 to 15-12-2009); Formator at the Saint Thomas Aquinas Diocesan Seminary in Santa Rosa de Osos, January 2, 2010 to May 18, 2011 (02-1-2010 to 18-5-2011); Rector of the Saint Thomas Aquinas Diocesan Seminary in Santa Rosa de Osos, and Defender of the Bond and Promoter of Justice, May 18, 2011 to November 27, 2017 (18-5-2011 to 27-11-2017); and member of the Presbyteral Council, College of Consultors, and Diocesan Council for Economic Affairs, 2011 to 2017. The CIII Plenary Assembly of the Episcopate, held from July 3, 2017 to July 7, 2017, elected him Deputy Secretary of the Episcopal Conference for the 2017-2020 term. On March 4, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of the Diocese of Montelíbano. On June 18, 2020, he received episcopal ordination at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá in Santa Rosa de Osos, at the hands of Msgr. Jorge Alberto Ossa Soto, Bishop of Santa Rosa de Osos. On June 24, 2020, he took canonical possession of his episcopal see.
