Prelate of Moyobamba
He was born on April 4, 1962, in Quintanar de la Orden, within the Archdiocese of Toledo, Spain. After completing his primary and secondary studies at the Major Seminary of Toledo—located in his hometown—he continued his philosophical and theological training at the San Ildefonso Theological Institute, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Theology. He also obtained a Licentiate in Ecclesiastical Sciences from the Spanish Ministry of Education. He was ordained a diocesan priest on July 9, 1989, and incardinated into the Archdiocese of Toledo (Spain). Following his ordination, he served as: - Parochial Vicar of the "Nuestra Señora de los Remedios" Parish in Sonseca (1989–1990). - Military Chaplain for the Army at "Cerro Muriano," Córdoba (1990–1991). - Parish Priest of the "San Bartolomé Apóstol" Parish in San Bartolomé de las Abiertas and Retamoso de la Jara (1991–1994). - Religious Education Teacher at the "Fernando de Rojas" Institute in Talavera de la Reina (1991–1998). - Vice-Chaplain and, subsequently, Chaplain of the "Cursillos de Cristiandad" Movement in Toledo (1991–2004). - Member of the Youth Coordinating Committee of Talavera de la Reina (1994–1998). - Chaplain of the "San Prudencio" School in Talavera de la Reina (1994–1998). - Parish Priest of the "San Cipriano, Mártir" Parish in Cebolla (1998–2003). - Attached to the "Nuestra Señora del Pilar" Parish in Talavera de la Reina (2003–2004). - Parish Administrator of the "Nuestra Señora de los Remedios" Parish in Montesclaros (2003–2004). He arrived in Peru in 2004 as part of the first group of diocesan priests from Toledo assigned to serve the Prelature of Moyobamba, which the Holy See had entrusted to the Archdiocese of Toledo. He served as Vicar General of the Prelature of Moyobamba and Parish Priest of the "Santiago Apóstol" Cathedral in the city of Moyobamba between 2004 and 2006. On July 8, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Coadjutor Bishop of the Prelature of Moyobamba. He received episcopal ordination on August 26 of that same year from the Cardinal Archbishop of Toledo, Antonio Cañizares Llovera. He has served as the Bishop-Prelate of the Prelature of Moyobamba since July 21, 2007, following the Pope's acceptance of the resignation—due to age—of the previous incumbent, Msgr. José Santos Iztueta Mendizábal. Within the Peruvian Episcopal Conference, he served as a member of the Permanent Council (2009–2011) and has been a member of the Episcopal Commission for Seminaries and Vocations since 2009.
