Bishop of Mukachevo (Ruthenian)
Most Reverend Bishop Teodor Matsapula, Eparch of the Mukachevo Greek Catholic Eparchy. Bishop Teodor Matsapula was born on August 21, 1981, in Krylos, Ivano-Frankivsk region (Ukraine). In 2001, he entered the novitiate of the Institute of the Incarnate Word and continued his studies at the San Vitaliano International Seminary in Segni and the Saint Bruno the Bishop Center for Higher Studies (2002–2008). He made his perpetual vows on August 25, 2007, and was ordained a priest on February 10, 2008. From 2008 to 2013, he carried out pastoral ministry for Byzantine-rite Catholics outside Ukraine. Upon returning to his homeland, he continued his service in the Mukachevo Eparchy. From 2013 to 2019, he served as the Proto-hegumen of the then-Delegation of Our Lady of Zarvanytsia in Ukraine. Since 2017, he has served as the Syncellus for Religious Affairs of the Mukachevo Greek Catholic Eparchy. In 2018, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Precarpathian National University, and in 2022, a Licentiate in Pastoral Theology from the Ukrainian Catholic University. In addition to Ukrainian, he speaks Italian, Spanish, Polish, and Russian. On May 8, 2024, Pope Francis appointed Fr. Teodor Matsapula as the Eparch of the Mukachevo Greek Catholic Eparchy. His episcopal ordination was scheduled for July 16, 2024, at the Holy Cross Cathedral in Uzhhorod. The episcopal ordination and enthronement of Bishop Teodor (Matsapula) took place on July 16.
